One of my favorite spots for engagement sessions is the Blue Ridge Parkway, filled with numerous destinations that offer sweeping vistas just a short distance from the road. Whether it’s the golden hour light spilling over the ridges or the vibrant fall foliage, the Parkway feels like it was made to capture love stories. 

Just last summer, I photographed a couple who wanted mountain views at sunset, so we chose the Parkway’s Craggy Gardens as our destination. We took a mini hike, wandering through tunnels of twisted trees, eventually emerging into a field with 180-degree views of the mountains. All along the way, we captured photos that reflected the beauty of the journey. And as the sun set, we were treated to the unexpected surprise of a nearly full moon, adding a magical touch to the final moments of the shoot. There are always moments like these to be found on the Parkway.

Asheville is also full of charming neighborhoods, like North Asheville, home to the Asheville Botanical Garden, another popular photo spot, as well as parks where you can stroll along the river.

• Fall: Imagine a sea of vibrant red, orange, and yellow leaves as your backdrop. Fall is one of the busiest times for sessions, and for good reason—it’s absolutely stunning.
• Winter: There’s something magical about a snow-dusted mountain or a rustic cabin surrounded by evergreens. Winter engagements feel cozy and romantic.
